A question for people who collect a lot of Canadian coins - do you find that they tend to sell for a lot less than the Krause values? I've purchased a lot of Canadian coins for far below book value and I'm not sure if I'm lucky or if they're just overpriced.

When I've tried to sell my extra Canadian coins, I've found they sell for far less than Krause (and the North American Coins & Prices by David Harper) with the exception of very early pieces and very high quality pieces. Kind of like most coins... But then again, I'm trying to keep the best stuff.

One issue about comparing them to catalog prices is the grading. People in the US tend to overgrade them, while Canadian collectors go by a more conservative grading scale. People will describe a coin as XF and wonder why it sold for VF prices - because it is a VF by strict Canadian standards.
