Ha thanks guys! I figure there's someone on here! A recent pickup! I love the designs of patterns and the rarity.
I'm like Ken , I don't collect them but sure enjoy looking at them . So post away . I also think a lot of the patterns are better looking than the chosen coins . Welcome to NS .
I like looking at them though. My personal favorite is the unique pattern 1907 gold double eagle pattern with the Indian Head on it.
That one is amazing. I don't have any gold patterns, they make regular patterns look common AND cheap!
Why do they say standard on them?? And why does the 50 cent piece say standard silver when it appears to be copper? Also, one of the gold meltdown shops in the area took in a bag of miscellaneous tokens and found a $2 1/2 copper civil war dated pattern. Funny thing was, it was a VG at best.. How would that even be possible for a copper quarter eagle to slip past so many? LoL
Standard Silver patterns were an idea of redeeming fractional currency notes for coins with less intrinsic value than the face value at the time. They made patterns of the designs in the series dated both 1869 and 1870... In silver, copper, and aluminum. If adopted the coins were always intended to be coin silver but the patterns were sometimes made in copper because it was cheaper or aluminum to create a rarity for collectors of the era. That's an interesting story, copper patterns of gold issues are especially valuable!
