This is in a PCI holder. Just picked it up on eBay. The first two images were the sellers. The rest of them are mine. I am really happy with what I received compared to the sellers pictures. The mark above the 5 is a shadow of a nick in the holder. The seller didn't give any information on the PCI grade but the description was: 1882 SUPER NICE BU SHIELD NICKEL.....NO RESERVE. I am thinking about taking it out of the PCI holder and putting it into an airtite.

I believe the coin to either be cleaned UNC or AU.

I'll say PCI said MS65 but I think it has too many contact marks so I'd call it a MS63 if it were me...

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

In these pictures (which aren't great), I am not seeing evidence of either of these. What are you seeing?

It looks like a borderline 63/64 coin to me, based on those pics.

If uncleaned, around MS62. In the future, direct shots of the coin (camera parallel to the coin) make the best images. Play with the lighting until you like it.

I'm with you, I just couldn't tell if it was 58 or 64 so I only gave a PCI guess.

Because of the holder, the lens will not focus when direct. The breaks in luster is the elephant in the room. I don't think it was cleaned but the breaks in luster with little wear could indicate it. The very small dings in the fields on the reverse and lack of sufficient luster in the fields have me grading it at AU58.

PCI gave it a 60 which (if not cleaned) would be a little more than fair grade for this coin IMO.

Observe how abruptly the luster disappears around the stars and between the stars and the legend.

I'm going with an MS 61 myself the grader has it at MS 65
Nice looking shield as the high points show no wear, all the stars are in tack. If you paid $75.00 or less, you got yourself a steal.

That's kind of how i felt about it. :) The sellers pictures really hurt the final price.

Congrats on a very sweet shield, now you want a little icing on the cake? From your images from what I can see it looks to be an 17.1. All four digits repunched . Give me a better image of the date and I may have something else to add. ....
