once again, meh. Since the designs are so flat and uninspiring, I've given up on them after less than 3 mo.

There will be one released every 3 months for as many dead Presidents of America there have been.Gerald Ford will be the latest to get commemoration on a coin.

Keep hoping, it's good for the spirit. But when we looked at the computer rendering my 10 year old says he looks like the Penguin on Batman.

there was a write up this weekend in the lacal paper about the release of the Adams. They said there will be a special ceremony at the Adams Estate which is 3/4 of a mile down the street from me. Of course they screwed the story up and said the date would be the 22nd. I went down to the Estate and talked to one of the rangers who confirmed that the ceremony would be on the 17th but plans weren't finalized yet. A rep from the Mint will be there tomorrow to finalize the plans and he will know the details tomorrow night. I have already scheduled to take the day off from work to attend, after all how often do you get to attend a ceremony like this within walking distance of home...oh.wait, thats right they will be there again this time next year for John Quincy's coin.

this finally ties two of my hobbies together on an american coin. I am also into genealogy and John Adams is my 4th cousin 7 generations removed.

So far as we know right now anyway. If Carter dies between now and 2014, Carter and Reagan will get coins too. It all depends on the lifespans of the current and future living former presidents. The series will continue until all presidents who have been dead for 2 years or more by the time their turn comes up are honored; when nobody else whose turn has come up qualifies (an otherwise qualified person will not be honored if a previous president does not qualify; so Reagan will not be honored unless and until Carter is first) the series will end (for any presidents to be honored after that, it will require another act of Congress).

So far the series is guaranteed to go up to at least Ford in 2016, but that may change, especially depending on how long Carter and Bush Sr. live.

Same thing holds for the first spouse coins. So far they are only guaranteed to continue up tyo Jacquliene (sp?) Kennedy, though it is very likely Lady Bird Johnson (now 93) will die by the time her turn comes up, allowing the series to continue to at least Pat Nixon, maybe even Betty Ford by then. First spouse coins are further resitricted than the presidents; in order for a first spouse to be honored, she must be honored in turn, when he husband is honored, and she has to have been dead for at least 2 years at the time her turn comes up.

Think the John Adams coin looks better than George but really would not take a lot to do that. On Tuesdays of this week , a guy at work passed out some John Adams coins he had got at a local bank. I could not believe this. It took almost a month after the release of George for our area to get some of his mug shots.

The legislation specifies that no living President of former President may be portrayed on the dollar coin, but I don't recall any such language forbidding the portrayal of a living First Spouse.
