Hopefully the Mint's site can handle the traffic come Monday morning. Also, would the $4.95 shipping charge cover the 2 items or no? Paying with a debit card can be a pain with trying to guess the correct amount.

Me too...this is actually WORSE than the Eisenhower fiasco a few weeks ago

 

Man, that was worse than the Eisenhower set. Eventually got to the end, but everything was slow, and had to retry the actual order submission. (Went through at 12:04, order number 3484xxx.)

It's self-reinforcing, though -- the slower the site gets, the more people will launch multiple requests in hopes one will get through, which makes the site slower.

There are a few things the Mint could do:

1) Build up huge overcapacity on their servers just for the few times when there's a high-demand offering. Expensive and wasteful.

2) Rent from someone like AWS to bring up extra capacity for these events. Plenty of political issues there.

3) Impose some sort of lottery system like @medoraman suggested in one of the Ike threads. Fair, but apparently unthinkable.

4) Mint to demand... nah, that's crazy talk.

 

Someone is clearly using software designed to automatically complete orders that is causing these web issues. The site is bad this time I can't even get past logging in on either the catalog one or the U.S. mint one. Be nice to hear what excuse the mint will make up this time.

 

Got my order in but the web site initially wouldn't reload. I logged in a few minutes before hand and was refreshing. Geez the Mint is making this a habit They need to add more server capacity for these kind of releases.

 

I was finally able to get my order through this time. Had to reload the "bag" page a time or two and then finally the confirmation page several times before it showed a confirmed order. I logged in from a different computer and confirmed the order in my order history. But yeah...this was at least as bad as Ike day. I probably only succeeded because there were more available.

I'm still trying, but the site is a total mess for me. Still only 10mins have passed, so I WILL be getting some, but this ordering process is a joke!

Guess what I did? Exited the checkout page to try and make it go faster.....now I can't get back to the checkout.

 

11 minutes and it cannot connect after six repeated starts.

 

I have to ditto the others - server issues this time were much worse than Truman or Ike. I did get mine to go thru but never got a confirmation page, but it shows up in my orders so I'm not going to push it.

I definitely suspect someone is using automated software to clog this thing up.

 

I can't even get to the product page....

 

I finally got out at 12:11..........more ridiculous than the Eisenhower
