went to the Vienna show this morning - looked at a few things, shook my head a most of them. many of the slabbed coins i saw from PCGS have me worried. a variety of types all in higher grades seemed to be way over graded - obvious XF coins graded at AU58 or even MS60. i saw several MS66 Jefferson nickels that i wouldn't dare grade above AU50. i'm heading back tomorrow and am hoping to come home with a few nice finds. there were a few coins that i was interested in and i'm certain they are still there. i'll post a complete show review tomorrow, but so far, the big winner was my son. i bought him a nice half dollar which he promptly talked another dealer into buying for 2x what i paid. he is a smooth talker nice to see some dealers have fun with kids at the shows - i had my eye on a coin they had and will pick it up tomorrow for sure. -Steve
came home with 4 new Mecury dimes for the collection - 1942-D - very nice bands and nice mint luster - MS63 1943 - center band solid - AU/MS 1944-D - FSB and nice mint luster - MS63 and the sweetest of them all 1945-D - FSB and incredible mint luster - MS63 i did good, not great. i'm working on my Mercury set from 1934 to present less the 1942/41 coins. it's a nice set to build and there are plenty of choice coins to be had at reasonable prices. -Steve
WOW! Simply beautiful! Gotta love that luster! If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the Mercs? Glad to hear you had a fun day. Phoenix
i was very happy to pay $30.00 for them all. i did good, not great. i'm really looking forward to Baltimore in June. -Steve
There is a Dulles show in May ... at the Expo Center May 18, 19, 20, I believe. Where do you live spockster?
i'll post some pictures of the 4 coins in the US Coins forum and see what you'll think of them. the more i think about the one deal, the more i feel i over paid -Steve
