Soft board for displaying/examining coins?

I'm trying to find one of those soft (padded/felt-covered) boards that dealers use to let you examine coins, but I'm not sure what search terms to use. (We've got an Amazon order that needs a few more bucks to get free shipping, so this seems like a good chance.)

Can anybody help me out? I though I'd heard them called "jeweler's boards", but that term isn't getting me what I need...

Go to wizard or jpscorner to do some scouting. Chances are they will have what you are looking for so you can find the correct terminology.

And yes I know you want to purchase from Amazon, so just go to the other sites for the term you need to look up on Amazon

That was a great idea, but I'm still coming up blank. :( They have felt trays for displaying 2x2s or slabs, and some trays that aren't subdivided, but I don't see a simple padded board on either site.

I always thought the tray without divisions is what they use.

Should be a board about 10"x18"-24" I guess with raised edges. I would surmise that is so if a coin is dropped it won't roll off either but be bound by the trays border.

I like that, and like the price, although with shipping it's not much less that the one I'm ordering from Amazon. I do like the idea of getting neutral gray instead of black, though. I hope to use this as a backdrop for photographing eBay lots, and having a neutral gray background makes it a lot easier to get the color and levels right.

Just being picky, but why put your nice coins on treated cloth fibers such as velvet, or other plush. They have been chemically treated/colored and can do no good for the coins. Yes, jewelers use them, but they also buff and polish their goods which is contrary to good numismatic practice. Put a piece of plastic foam in a food quality zip lock bag and put the coin on top. You have the same protection against slippage and the friction should not damage the coin. If all of your coins are circulated, I guess it doesn't matter.

This will be for photography, not for storage. I would not put a valuable uncirculated or proof coin on a surface like this, or even a zip-lock bag (which might easily have abrasive or active contaminants on its outer surface); I'd photograph those through their slab, or after removing one side of the capsule containing them.

I still need to acquire one of these, and I like the gray myself, but I would want one with sides because I do drop things - even coins sometimes - and would prefer a boundary to stop it from rolling onto the floor.

Thanks for the thread and making me spend more money........argh!
