I have two 1909 indians (not S, unfortunately).
One is about a G, while the other is about a VF, BUT is has several scratches on the face.

Do the scratches on a higher grade coin make it worth less than an undamaged lower grade coin?

The scratches would make it worth less than the undamaged coin. But really an 09 is pretty common and they would likely sell for about the same price.

Sure, it's a market grade. And markets like the ones without the scratches.

A VF without a scratch is worth more than a VF with a scratch, but it gets tedious when different grades come into play. Is a problem free F equal to a scratched VF? Maybe VG equals scratched VF? It ends up a judgment call for the individual to decide. The size of the scratch also comes into play.

Thanks! I mean it's still worth like 10 or so regardless, so big deal. I got each of them for about 2 dollars anyways :)
