Selling my collection

Just wondering if anybody can give some advice....I want to sell off my collection....I have over 800 slabbed PCGS coins and around 320 slabbed NGC Coins. All my PCGS coins are in the registry 844 coins with a PCGS value of $39,000.00 which include over 80 morgan/peace mainly old green holders, over 135 ASE and a variety of others....on the NGC side over 100 ASE, state quarters, modern comms etc.... I also have every proof set clad and silver from 1957 to the present...and many doubles....tons of IKE brown boxes various mint products. I dont have the time to sell it on e bay too much stuff, does anybody have any info on some of the dealers that have ads in coin world etc....where they say they will buy your whole collection....etc Thanks

you might try consigning it to someone who has time to ebay it, those magazine ad guys will low ball you

 

If it was me I would consign my PCGS and NGC coins to Teletrade or Heritage with a leaning toward Teletrade because they have sent me free passes (for resale) on some of the coins I have won at auction from them. You have a large collection, did you build it? The ones that are not slabbed I might take to a coin dealer. Any time you need a fast sale you must expect to receive less than market.

 

i would try a auction house for a lot that large ... if you want to have fun selling, sign up for Ebay..

more importantly, before you sell to anyone outright, get more then 1 quote

 

You could always offer some of the coins you want to sell, right here in the forum. Just a suggestion.

I wouldn't expect that you would achieve a final value anywhere near the PCGS price listed, but you never know. PCGS seems to over-value thier coins, especially the modern (not super high grade) coins.

 

You might also want to consider David Lawrence,Superior Galleries, or Bowers & Merena. They all have websites.

If I were you I would probably send my inventory to at least 3 of them and see what they have to say. Good luck!

If you go that route, just remember to do it in the Open forum, and follow it's special rules.

 

What are your registry set names?

 

Selling the coins on eBay will give you a very large Collector/Buyer base. However, you will need the time to organize what items and how many you will sell with each Auction, build the Auctions (compose them using Turbo Lister II), babysit the Auctions including answering numerous emails about the coins or sets and then take care of all of the emails, insuring payments are received, shipping, Feedback, etc. once the auctions close.

With such a large lot of coins, I agree with "alwayslost" and advise that you should consign the coins to Heritage. You can call up a Consignment Representative with Heritage, make arrangements to consign and ship the coins to them and with such a large amount of coins, you should be able to negotiate a lower Sellers fee. My friend has consigned coins to Heritage in the past and he advised that their' fees are higher for one time or small (amount) consignments but they are negotiable and will charge less to the Seller for repeat and large (amount) consignments (I was told that they only charge 5% on repeat or large (amount) consignments). With Heritage, you not only get a company known for high volume/high value sale, you also get the visibility of eBay as well as thousands and thousands of Coin Dealers, Coin Collectors and Coin Investors all at the same time (since Heritage usually offers these items at auction on eBay, via their' Website and call in all at the same time).

Considering the cost of the fees that eBay will charge you for each Auction (up front and at the end of the Auction), the hassle and time that it takes to organize, compose and load the Auctions on to eBay and then the hassle of dealing with all of the emails, insuring that all payments are received, the shipping and the Feedback, you will proabably fair much better with consigning the coins to Heritage.

Sell them to a coin dealer or have them auctioned. Ebay is just too unpredicatable.

Think about it:
$2750 for a WV Satin Finish ?
even if it is an MS-69.
With that money you could buy some really nice and scarce coins.

The monetary values listed are the pcgs values , I understand it is high and not to expect that at all....Im just looking for a fair price....I definetly know the values on the list I will not get.....I know I could sell on Ebay...but do not intend todo that.....I will just check out a few places get some quotes and if they are way ridiculous I ll just keep my collection...no problem.....thanks to everyone who has responded.

 

I'd maybe consider Teletrade. They seem to do ok with the more modern slabbed stuff. You can use the price guide on their site to see what similar stuff has sold for.
