Yeah, you can really see the difference, its not nearly as noticeable in the original pics.

I don't think so, but it is a photo, and the truview is not a truview.
The coppering toning is a bit over the top.

I know some eBay sellers use true view
feature which I think is a great idea
maybe should be required ? I was
considering this coin but the additional
pics talked me out of it..LOL

I agree that it was probably wise to pass on this coin. I guess if it was offered at a very slight premium to spot it would be of interest but if you're trying to build a nice-looking set, probably wise to pass.

I always check the certs on a graded coin as a first test of authenticity. If there's a TrueView, then it's another test of authenticity plus a way around the often awful pictures put up by dealers. And not just EBay dealers but many reputable and long-standing dealers have awful photos. And that includes Great Collections' which are terrible. They look good until you download and zoom in. Oops, went off on a rant!

Keep looking. There is some nice-looking gold out there but you have to be selective because it seems the TPGs have gotten way too lenient on US gold.

At the last FUN show I passed on an extremely nice 1907 Eagle in PCGS AU58 because it was a little pricey. In retrospect I wish I'd sprung for it because it was worth the extra money and a really nice one doesn't come around every day.

I have allot of A/U GOLD liberties and Saints, I like the value you get and
usually a nice looking coin to boot
I think M/S grades thru 63 can be problematic as good luster doesn’t
    always equal a good coin.

I'm almost hesitant to post TVs because they can be so misleading. So often they make the coin look more colorful than it really is. And yeah, I know I'm not exactly the first person to notice this.

I agree that TVs are "glamour shots". But, really, that's what they are designed to be since the buyer of the coin and the service is paying for it. They are not intended to be a comprehensive record of the coin's appearance nor serve as a research tool.

I would much rather have the TVs available than go the NGC route which is no photos or lousy ones.

To the larger question of evaluating and buying from photographs: No single photo can tell a coin's story. Even a set of photos with varying lighting, etc will not tell the whole story. But, if I'm going to be evaluating a coin from photos, I want to have as many points of reference as possible. TrueView photos are just one more data point. Of course, with more information it is possible to become the man with two watches - never knowing the true time.
