This thread reminded me that I had a Gordian III unphotographed.

From the later part of his reign, with sideburns and a hint of tache...

This is actually a rather sad coin considering that "later part of his reign" means 17 or 18 years old.

Yeah, nowhere near enough time to grow a proper beard. The ones I always find sad are those doomed little boys - Diadumenian, Saloninus, Val II, etc.

My boys are turning 16 in October, and when I see their potential, I find it impossible to imagine them dying as teenagers. Having teenagers also adds a layer of understanding to the tumult of Roman history, as so many of the emperors were so young. There is nothing more selfish, entitled, and self-absorbed than a teenager.

I very much understand John...you love them, and "hate" them too... You know they must make mistakes, and to try to find whom they are. Tough "Row to Hoe" right now, Mein Frein! I envy you / and I am also glad it is over for me now (6 of them). Now, it is the Grandkids...and some worries with them, also. That is why I am building RE Album(s)... to possibly get the little whelps interested in ANCIENTS!!! :D

Yeah, that wasn't a guy, it was a city. Gordium

Well, he was also a guy, the mythical founder of the city.

Nice addition! It would be easy to make a nice sub collection of Gordian, but I tend to pass most up too.

So what happens on a "double post"? Is that a 10 yard penalty, or something?
    Replay with loss of down?

Those of you with children many be aware of a series of books by Laura Numeroff that began with the classic 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie'. The plot is a little mouse who is given a cookie but that makes him want a glass of milk which makes him need something else....and something else. Collecting ancient coins is a lot like a 'If You Give a...' book plot that never reaches the back cover (when you hear, "Read it again, Daddy."
