Was at a paper collector's show today. A few dealers had a few coins on the side. Picked up a 1909 VDB cent for $2. Very nice XF. Did I do OK on that? Red Book lists it at $10, but I never believe their prices.
I would have dropped 2 bucks on it so I reckon you did. Buying coins from paper dealers and paper from coin dealers can be a sharp move. A few years ago I picked up an AU 1935 staight $1 Silver Certificate for $5 from a coin dealer. M-A block. A tough block as you may know. Showed it to a currency dealer and he asked if I hurt my arm going for my walllet. You done good!
you did good! thats what dealers usually pay for those. he must have gotton that in change or searching rolls!
Thanks for the help. I can't post a pic, no camera. And I didn't get it from a paper money dealer. This was a paper ephemera show - you know, postcards, stock certificates, old deeds, posters, etc. I just happened to see this one dealer had a couple coins on the side, and this sharp cent was one of them.
That's a great deal. I have been paying $8 ea for vg and better coins...they've been skyrocketing in value...bids are up every month, largely due to speculation of it's impending centennial. I suspect there will be multiple HUGE promotions by the telemarketers offering 1909-2009 related items. Pick up '09 Lincolns & Indians whenever you see them priced cheap! tradernick
I believe you are right. 1909 cents of all types seem to be rising in price, probably because sets are being put together already to be marketed in 2009.
