?

Would NGC give this a FS designation?

  1. No, not even 5FS. PCGS might.

Just picked up a new Jefferson for my collection. I thought it would be fun to post some photos (the best I can do at the moment, seems to be tricky to photograph - I'll see if I can get some better ones of the steps) and make a poll:

Do you think this is a FS nickel?

One more try at the photo:

Same image, inverted. Notice the weakness near column 3 - although, in hand, there is still a line present. I'm curious also about the edges of the steps at the bottom corners - think that will be enough to disqualify it from FS?

Not a FS for me... I had to vote Jessica myself... although we all know that the number one Jessica is Jessica Rabbit!!

It's close but not quite there in my opinion. The weakness above the C and the hit that bridges the 2 steps on the far left stop it from being FS.

Although the step line is still visible above the "C" and you call it 'weak', it still is not considered "Full Steps" ? Can you elaborate ?

If you were to hand me this coin in person, and ask if it was FS, I'd say no. I might also say that it MAYBE might get 5FS from NGC, and it's entirely possible PCGS would dump a FS designation on it...why? Because I've seen plenty (I saw 5 slabs yesterday alone) of coins already designated FS that had much, much weaker steps than this coin.

It's in an older NGC 67 slab, so I think it's worth sending in for designation review to see if I get lucky.

It's nowhere near as solid as my 1941 D MS676FS...but I'm not holding my breath for that 6FS designation.

Funny side note: my best friend (an actor who just moved to LA) did a catering job that had tons of celebrities in attendance (including Hillary Clinton) and the word from him is that pictures do NOT do Ms. Alba justice...hence, the alternate poll choice. His comment about the Kardashians: "They have TERRIBLE skin. There is a reason they use special filters and photoshop on everything you see." Ha!

It does not matter one whit what the folks on a coin forum think or say. All that matters is whether or not a TPG will say what it is by putting in on the slab label.

I take that to mean she's much hotter in person!! Which I already assumed! :)

I said what I said because of the requirements for the FS designation used by NGC. Those requirements are that the steps have to be clear and distinct, with no breaks or hits crossing the steps. Based on that the coin does not meet those requirements.

I understand, nothing meant by the question, I like to be exact, thank you.
