Suppose someone wanted to collect medals/tokens with location names that you would not normally associate with that particular state, such as Brooklyn, Indiana or Moscow Newyork. Is there a numismatical term specific to this kind of collecting, besides "psychosis" ? Or is there an actual name for a medal/token that has the name of a big city but existing as a small township somewhere?
I don't know if there's a special name, but here's a website where you can find THOUSANDS of them - www.placesnamed.com Let's pick Brooklyn - Alabama (3) Connecticut Florida Georgia Illinois (2) Indiana Iowa Kentucky Maryland Michigan Minnesota Mississippi (2) Missouri New York (3) Ohio Oregon Pennsylvania Virginia Washington West Virginia (2) Wisconsin (2) See: http://www.placesnamed.com/b/r/brooklyn.asp
How about if such medals are called Chrissies after Chrissie Hynde "My City Was Gone" ? Or a Twlight Zone because it's not really gone it's just over there a spell. Or a PE for Philadelphia Experiment
It seems to me that the highway department in Indiana is nuts. If you drive north on 31 from Indianapolis, you will spot two separate signs........one indicating that Mexico is to the east and another that indicates that Paris is to the west. Chris
Or a Toto: ...I've a feeling we're not in Bensonhoist anymore... Or, speaking of Kansas: Wayward son. This would not only be descriptive of a city name somewhere unexpected but probably the collector as well. Yeah, I think I like Wayward Son.
