Seated Lib 10c with some kind of stamped design on the back

    Can anybody identify what in the world this design is?

    (on back of 1874 seated Lib dime)

    It IS a love token, and those ARE fancy engraved letters. Worth much more than bullion, look up a few sales on eBay.

    There's a reason for that. If you give the dime to your girl, and her initials are PFP, and it doesn't work out, you repossess the dime and start looking for a girl with initials REB. o_O

    Does it hurt a love token to clean it? Seems like it wouldn't, but I don't really collect them.

    What's the best/harshest thing I can use to clean it? It's pretty crusty on the face...

    Put a heavy coat of vaseline on both sides, and set the coin aside for a week. Then gently remove the vaseline with a soft rag - it will often take a lot of the junk with it, with absolutely no abrasion of any kind. Works better on copper than silver. That's as far as I'd go.
