As I said in a thread recently, I'm one coin away from completing my New Zealand pre-decimal collection. In the meantime, I've been working on scanning the coins I have to share them with anyone who is interested. I only did one side of the coins - the other has the king or queen and we've all seen them before. Some of them need to be upgraded and I'm working on that, but for now I'm glad to have at least a placeholder. Hopefully this link works for you all. I also have pictures of my New Zealand dollar coins, which I've shared before as well. http://s300.photobucket.com/user/hiddendragon02/library/New Zealand
Thanks. I think that one is a proof but I'm not 100 percent sure. I got it from a bin at a coin show.
Seriously???? You lucky dog. I think it may be a proof as well. Or at least Proof-like. Amazing what you can find in those bins. If it is a proof it looks like it's worth $200+
I see the price for a proof as $7 and matte proof as $130. If this is a proof I'm sure it's the cheap one. Still it's worth more than I paid for it. That was the first year with Elizabeth II so they probably made more that year.
Thank you for posting your wonderful collection! I love seeing near to complete sets like this. The last time you talked about this collection inspired me to check out New Zealand coins online, and I learned a lot of interesting facts about them.
Nice. Like that 1949 NZ Crown. Got one of those. I like NZ Florins and Half Crowns (pre-1953). I wonder why they almost always appear at grades below Mint State? I guess they were heavily circulated.
I like those too. You're right, they are pretty heavily circulated. Most have rather low mintages so the same coins probably got used a lot, and it would have been a decent amount of money, probably similar to a U.S. half dollar. If a nickel could buy a candy bar then what could that get you? Most British florins I see are pretty heavily circulated too.
