After doing some research on the vam ( Spike 8 ) this is a very interesting vam . I copy some images, one with the " Spike 8 " and one without ( Spike 8 ) The back of the cap has some nice doubling there too . Just thought I would share this with some of the vam collectors out there .. Heres a link to this vam http://www.vamworld.com/1881-S+VAM-1A
The 1881-S I just purchased is either vam 27 or 37 ... I'll post the images here, when I finish them today ...
Heres some images, can't seem to match the mint-mark to the " Spike 8 " vam family .. Here's some images of the back of the " Cap " ... Here's the link to vam world: sort by date, just click on the " Spike 8 " variety http://www.vamworld.com/1881-S+Sort+by+Date
Is this the same 1881-S you were talking about in your previous thread that you thought it was a VAM 59?
No Eddie, I know I have the spike 8 variety, but I can't match the mint mark to any of the vams for the spike 8 . Here's an image of the spike in the 8
I also posted a link, once you click on the link, spike 8s will be first on the list and none of the mint mark match the one I just posted; And I know its part of the spike 8 vam family ..
Ah, that's why you call it a family, there are different varieties in this VAM. I'm beginning to get the idea.
Good I'll show you more, heres a link to Reverses http://www.vamworld.com/1881-S Reverses Now what you do is take all the vams for the spike 8 family and match them to the reverses, which are listed with vams too ..
Rick, this makes me glad that I'm not a true VAM collector as you are. Too many things to look for. Keep looking and I'm sure if you find the time to look, you'll find it. By the way, this coin looks amazing. Nothing like original posted from the sellers pics. Are we talking MS-65 or 66?
Could hit 66, its almost proof-like . A little in the fridge and in know time will be proof-like . Tricks of the trade ...
