Now that the Mint has sold us key dates for most of the current series, is it time to change all the designs? The mint can continue making profits from keys to the new series, rather than undermine the keys they sold us for current series. Maybe a president will write a letter like Roosevelt did and we'll have an artistic revival of our coinage.

Yup. I'm looking for a return to neoclassical style, but I'm afraid people just arent trained in that school anymore. The only coin that has any sort of "fun" to it these days are the National Parks quarters. Yes the presidential and sacagawea, but those aren't circulated.

Maybe some more fun designs will prompt more people into collecting.

Not if it's out with the old dead presidents and in with the new dead presidents.

I'd like to see them sell advertising on the obverse of coins. Then there would be lots of different designs to collect and we wouldn't have to look at dead presidents with funny hair. And maybe interest in collecting advertising tokens, shell cards or encased postage stamps would increase.

Hey, most of their business strikes look like tokens anyway.

Interesting, kinda like the way corporations have taken over sports with names like AT&T Park. Since they've takenover our government too, might as well charge them to takeover our coins.

I was thinking of the coins from the 1800s. Gobrecht was a master. I like different representations of Liberty. Who cares about the Presidents! Liberty is what America was built upon.

An interesting side bar is look at how many have viewed this poll v how many have vote. Are there really that many collectors out there with no opinion? Hmm, kinda like our national voting average.

Congress has like an 18% approval rating, only 20% of people vote, and people continue complaining. Looks like the numismatic world is not free of the perils of democracy!

They should make a major change to all circulating coinage every 25 years. Having a coin design live though 4-5 generations, such as the Lincoln cent, is way too long. A child should not be forced to start a collection that his grandfather, or great grandfather, started when he was a child is wrong on many levels, primary among them is the child could never collect all of the date/mm on a average allowance/wage in his lifetime.

I should add, placing a different reverse on a coin does NOT make it a new design. I am sick and tired of dead presidents on every coin and currency in circulation.

Hey, I know! They could make a Bruce Jenner/Caitlyn Jenner commemorative half dollar! Put both faces by each other like the George Washington Carver or Monroe Doctrine halves. :wideyed:

In 2018 a sitting American president will be on a coin, When has that ever happened?

I think Calvin Coolidge appeared on some random commemorative during his lifetime, but I don't know if he was still in office. With today's political polarization, can you imagine the firestorm that would ensue if they tried to put a current president on a coin?

    Firestorm would be an understatement.

Wouldn't that be fun... Of course, controversy is always nice because it drives up prices of coins :)
