I think in this instance you can blame your CoinTalk friends for being a bad influence ;)

I'm very pleased that my evil CoinTalk friends didn't dissuade me from nabbing one today!

I'm afraid I differ here and the devils on both of my shoulders make me tell you their opinions:
The right devil says you should consider this a contribution to CNG. They are nice people and deserve your hard earned C$'s. The consignor of this coin made nothing on it after paying their minimum fees. I hope they advised him that a coin like this would not bring much from their clientele and he insisted on it being listed as a separate lot.

The left devil says you should not bid sober because you do better with chemical assistance. That devil is a real.....devil.

You have too many really nice coins to buy coins that look like the kind I buy. On the good side: I don't see that one breaking.

Mine was $66.50 in 2000 (Frank Robinson) so I guess that is the going rate for a Philip II in (just fine). You have more detail and roughness. I'm selling a bunch of coins (trying anyway) but never considered selling this one. Will you still want yours in 2030? rx1220bb1688.jpg
Did you see this one? Under estimate even but way more than I'd pay. There are many lesser ones on acsearch at low prices suggesting the boy gets no respect.

Explain this one (yes, it is different):

Note to new people: I'm nasty to Steve because we have been posting together a long time. Would it be better to say 'nice coin'?

Yah, I already prefaced this thread with "mistake"!! ... I agree with JA, Bing and the gang that this coin "may" be money-well-spent, but I agree with you 100%

=> I have no attachment to this coin ... no animals, no great-looks ...

Yah, this is one of the few grinder-coins in my collections that I'm merely gonna post whenever Phil-II's name comes-up ...

*whatev* => yes, you caught my mistake ....... this coin is on the verge of actually being skipped across the water!!

Doug, I love your coin-honesty (ummm, but you're so mean!!)

Do these two coins ring a bell?

    just jokes (ya big teddy-bear!!)

    :panda:

I love your coin comments .... I know that you don't always appreciate my methods, but I have 100% good intentions and I do "love" hearing any of your feedback (you are numero uno!!)

stevex, in 20 years you're going to have 4 eyes?!

the better to see the coins with i suppose!

right now my wife has told me to not bid on ANYTHING until the next payday...she added "i really mean it this time".

both of my shoulder devils are to scared to say anything right now about getting a coin right now :muted:.

If I insisted that all my coins grade VF or higher, I would have to sell half my collection, including almost all of my Nabataeans. I've bought plenty of coins in F that were appropriately priced, and I enjoy them every bit as much as my "better" specimens. So I stand by my comment that it's a very nice coin for the price.

I've also discovered that I'm more lenient about grades on sestertii than I am about smaller issues. I'm not sure why that is - perhaps because their weight and tactile satisfaction balance out the wear?

I'm not exactly sure what the problem is with a coin that 'Doug would buy'. This one (like many that Doug has posted) is lovely coin I'd be happy to have myself. Nice random catch!

4 eyes is an absolute minimum when you get to a certain age which is oddly enough about where Steve will be in 20 years. (Don't buy the little clip on, the Dollar Tree +3.25 specs are much more useful!)

Doug buys way too many coins because they seem like a deal and not because he really wants them. I have found that many of those coins end up being sold for half what I paid for them when you figure in expenses and postage or just don't sell at all. Coins you want are cheap at twice the price but coins you are not really into for the long haul might not be a good deal at any price. If it sounds like I'm trying to talk you out of buying my cast offs, no, I'm suggesting you not buy things you don't want except for my coins. Those you should buy, OK?

Now two weeks after I bought that last group of coins, I find that a couple of them strike me twice as nice as they did that day and a couple of them might have been left behind if I had life on replay. The test of any coin purchase is whether we still like it when morning comes.

Personally I prefer Doug's comments over an attaboy. I always prefer honest criticism. If I was wrong, I always want to know. In my job, it's good I have a thick skin, and the same applies to coin purchases. I will never learn from a mistake if I am not shown how I was wrong, right?

Hey medoraman => maybe you and Doug should push-off and think about it for a little while?

ahaha, just jokes ... that never gets old, eh?
=> well fellas, I'm "hoping" that Raggedy-Phil-II is gonna look like a Champ tomorrow morning!!

I love you guys and I always take your coin-opinions as gospel (well, gospel with a grain of salt)
