I was watching today's CNG auction and thinking to myself that I sure wish I had some cash to place a couple of bids, for there were some sweet coins in today's auction.

I saw a neat coin and put a very small bid on it, but I was outbid ... *rats*

... but what do ya know, soon I saw another coin worthy of a tiny bid, but again I was outbid (and starting to get an itchy trigger-finger)

... so along comes this dog which didn't even have a bid on it yet ...

The next thing I know, I'm the proud owner of this dingy, cracked Philip II sestertius!! ($60)

Oh well ... if it doesn't crack in half during it's postal-journey, it'll at least feel pretty good in-hand!!

    :D

... man, I gotta stop logging on to those auctions!! (I'm like a rat in a cheese-shoppe!!)

Good catch, Steve. They seemed to have quite a few common sestertii in today's auction. I almost bid on a few myself. In my opinion, that's a really good coin for the price, and I would be happy to have it.

For the price you got a great deal little brother. Just stop looking. That's what I have to do. If I look, I buy!

    LOL.... Aint that the truth.

Steve, I love that coin, but I always have had a soft spot for big bronzes especially sestertii. And I must admit, he already seems quite at home with his 'brother'.

My only example is an ANT so I'll refrain from posting...

Auction sites are bad news for me. Been on CNG, but I never make it back in time for the auction. Agora may sting very soon since I can get an alert prior to my watch list items going across the block. Heritage also takes a lot from the collecting accounts, but mostly cards. Their coins are typically too high dollar at this stage of my ancient collecting.

@stevex6 watch out. I may be the one outbidding you in the future :nailbiting:.

    Nice pickup!!

Steve, collecting ancient coins is akin to a crack habit, but just a tad more expensive.

@Cyrrhus Addiction to buying coins is not a disease. But we always need to learn more and more in order to purchase or pick up the best so that we end up winners at the end of this interesting , peaceful and lovely game.

Yeah, I do the same. I have a bad habit of bidding just out of boredom at times. It wouldn't be so bad, but many times I buy a new coin only to find out a few weeks later there are already 3 in my SDB. I know, I know, I should be more organized. The real rush, though, is the thrill of the acquisition, right?

LOL, ooopsss...I won a few bids and just paid my bill (ouch, don't tell my wife!). Was doing the blanket-bid thing...copped a few that I was not expecting! Then, to-boot, my coin guy calls and my order came in...ugh, paid... LOL. So, I may have a few to post soon.

Great score @stevex6 ! I looked at that one, and well, everyone keeps pushing me into Empire, so I rebelled and passed on it!

=> where have you been, brother?

Yah, probably 75 % of my "better buys" have been induced by the devil on my left shoulder holding the
    sweet glass o' red!!

    But today's score was a non-alcoholic purchase (apparently I can't blame alcohol anymore ... it's in me)

    => I'm doomed to hit the bid-button!!
