ok if you had to get rid of your whole collection save one piece , just one piece which coin would you keep? and post a pic, what is the most valuable coin in your collection ? and most unique coin?pictures please
I would start over with this one: It does not look like much, but this is what I used to break into my mom's little plastic bank to see as a kid. I thought it was the most beautiful thing in the world. Anyone who knows me knows I own a LOT of coins, 1795 silver dollar, draped bust dollars, rare and nice ancient coins, St. Gaudens, etc, but none of them mean as much to me as a worn 1942 WL half that I got from my mother.
Yes, the coins with sentimental value are the ones that mean to the most to me. When I was a kid I collected coins ,Lincoln's and Buffalo's mostly, and my Uncle had a bar and I told him to keep on the look out for any rare coins that might come in. One day he came over and handed me a 1842 small o half dollar that a customer had spent in the bar. As a eleven year old that was a big thrill and I still have that coin. My Uncle passed away many years ago and that's one of my most prized coins.
I have a real fascination with UK 6d coins. I think as a kid they were rare enough in my life to be significant but did make an occasional appearance. It used to trouble me to buy something and loose it - worse if the change involve a half penny. I hated them but now admire that ship design. Later really detested (and still do) the decimal used 1/2p. I now have 6d coins spanning over three hundred years. Love them all.
for me if i had to start all over the one coin i would probably keep is my latest purchase its a error coin its plancetted 4x and clipped
I've already done it, twice. Collected a lot of modern US and bullion when I was younger, sold all of it, stopped collecting, started again in my 40's, with more modern US and bullion, got no satisfaction from it, sold most of it and went into ancients (with some HTT's and CWT's). Now I'm finally happy with my collections.
This is the piece I would save! Anyone want to take a shot at the grade of this proof 1891 Morgan? Thanks
