Has anyone ever seen this on a coun I've been looking at ? There seems to be a raised spot it almost looks stylised but I can't find another like it. It's the only fault I can pick with it.. Here are the rim pics that were supplied.
It's because of when they put the counterstamp, it caused that mark on the other side of the coin when it was stamped
Sorry, that's not the part I mean. On the obverse where the counterstamp is. The date 1797 The first 7 seems to have flick on it.. Looking somewhat like this.. , 7 A close up of what I mean, sorry I'm just about to go to bed so don't have the computer on and am using my iPhone.
I see what your talking about, but it's not a cud. Definition: A cud is a die break that involves the rim and at least a little bit of the adjacent field or design.
I couldn't edit the title to bring in the Spanish reale collectors so felt I did looks like I didn't now haha !
Well.. It certainly has the look of it. I work in a press shop (albeit making car panels) and usually you're talking a double blank or scrap build up to cause something like that generally a double blank would cause the whole detail to be a mess.
