how many of these "replicas" will be sold as legitimate US coins to novice collectors? Who needs more unmarked "replicas" entering this hobby? eBay rightfully removed his entire previous listings.
He does have God on his side...so after some deliberation, he goes ahead and lists a new replica capped bust .50.

  5. Seller is providing a service by listing Novelty coins on eBay with a clear description that the coin is not genuine. It gives buyers a chance to see the potential for copy/duplicate coins.

I have not seen eBay take any action to stop auctions of known copy/duplicate US cents being sold as original, so why should they be asked to stop the sale of clearly marked "novelty coins"?

I do believe that in Canada they are illegal . As a member here and another forum worked his butt off to have laws passed North of the border to prevent such items sold.

Yes they are illegal in Canada and they are against eBay rules. And I use to get them removed by the 1000's.

It appears he has taken most (all but one) done. Maybe someone got to him.

Good for our neighbors to the north! We should be so lucky! These so called unmarked replicas are simply counterfeits. Keep known counterfeits out of the market by any means possible. Oh please, this is providing a service. amazing........

Ever wonder why our neighbor to the north produces so many Hollywood sensations? Ted Mack they don't have but it's something similar to the BBC......

Something about the word "novelty" doesn't sound quite right to me. Why not use "replica" or "copy"? It's almost like the seller is telling 90 percent of the truth but isn't willing to go all out with terminology that is 100 percent correct.

Also, I think all of us would agree, regardless of our religious persuasion, that using scripture verses in a listing causes the seller to be held to a higher standard.

Each of the ones I looked at were so laughably poor they might as well be called fantasies, and really are of little concern if looking at the big picture. If one seriously wished to address the counterfeit issue, the first step might be realizing that worrying about some schmo selling dogs honestly on eBay is bypassing a mountain to climb a molehill. The second step might be figuring out how to "moralize" each and every person with, or willing to have, an involvement in this hobby as this is the true root of the problem. After that discovering a way for common sense to blossom, particularly among new and/or less experienced collectors, would be, well, icing on the cake.

What is "amazing", sir, is that some still fail to understand that if there was no demand for an item, even ones from this fellow or the likely Chinese producer, there would be no reason for it to exist or be available for sale. Since there clearly is a demand, regardless of if we like it or not, those filling it are in fact providing a "service". An unfortunate one, yes, but still a service.

  13. What's really reprehensible - selling copy/duplicate coins as Novelty or as original?

    Need a copy/duplicate 1922-d cent???

    Need a probable copy/duplicate 1909-s cent (current bid at $42 with 2d 11h to go) ???

Attached is a picture of a copy/duplicate die chip found on older Chinese copy/duplicate coins for your edification. Most copy/duplicates cents have improved and no-longer include this obvious marker.
