I think any MS grading of this coin is extremely generous. A identical normal 1955 would be low AU at best.
I believe it last sold for $2600 in April 2011 (see below). It'll be interesting to see what price it ends at. http://www.ebay.com/itm/330549876572
Not to mention it was on eBay since last year I think someone said...so it may have been a long, painful, drawn out loss?
Someone took a bigger hit than 500. Add in ebay final sales fees and probably paypal fee (~273 bucks) and the seller is left with around $1,831. Approximately 30% loss. Sounds right, welcome to the hobby ; )
I also agree that the grade is generous. I have put it at AU'ish also, probably got a bump for the color. Don't like the carbon garden either... 55DD's are still dropping in price and imo have further to go. I picked up a very nice AU58 some time ago in PCGS for around 1k and a bit of change. The new buyer of this coin will do well to sell at a push in his or her lifetime.
Surprise! The coin never made it to the buyer. At over $600.00 loss I am not surprised as I have dealt with this guy before. http://tinyurl.com/ishopcoinshows4you
OMG! Will this never die. It is back again - and at $4,000 again. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-Double...-Color-Tone-/191701879281?hash=item2ca25289f1
