    Happy Birthday!

52 eh, if by some chance I didn't get in older, you would catch up to me in 13 yrs, lol. Think of the coins we'll have by then!

I've been into Iberian peninsula coins lately. Actually your Ebusus with the bull is one of my favorites.

Here is a coin I got a a local show recently that I'm enjoying a lot.. It will be my avatar for a while.

Also, since you like animals like you do, I'm sending you this link of about animals of ancient Spain. It's in Spanish, but if you don't read Spanish I hope you will still enjoy the pictures.

I'm intrigued by the beer bong and the guy who has all the beer cans taped together. Why are they all taped together?

    Stunning coins @AncientJoe !

    Norman Conquest? :)

Actually, I don't think they had them in that time.........Dang Vikings...Had not King Harold had to fight them then maybe the Saxons could have carried the day at Hastings.....

Ahahaha ... she must be the ghost of parties-past? ...

Actually, she is one the girls that owns the party-house (I admit that she kinda looks like she's bitten-off more than she can chew with that bunch outside of her kitchen perch!!) ... despite her lurker-look, she is a great friend and a great partier!! (they own three dogs, including a big black Newfoundland who can be seen in the kiddie pool in one of the background photos ... wow, you dudes really dissected that photo, eh?) ... the guests are allowed to bring their dogs to the party as well (not surpisingly, other than having to keep a drink in your hand the entire day, there aren't too many rules) ... apparently I am naturally gifted at one-handed croquet, for I have stolen the championship trophy two years in a row!! (yup, when you live in northern Northern Manitoba you need to invent your own good times!!)

    ;)

Thanks for yesterday's best wishes .... until next year

    Happy belated Birthday Steve!

I can't really choose a favourite coin, but I can show you a recent favourite of mine.

    V853b.JPG
    Vespasian
    AR Denarius
    Rome mint, 76 AD
    RIC 853 (R2), BMC p. 34 note, RSC 374
Obv: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG; Head of Vespasian, bare, l.
Rev: PON MAX TR P COS VII; Pax, bare to the waist, seated l., holding branch extended in r. hand, l. hand on lap

An extremely rare denarius from 76. Left facing, bare head, and COS VII combine to make this an exceptional coin. This is the 7th known specimen: Berlin, Paris, Gemini 2013, Curtis Clay 2010, Private collection, and ebay 2003 (RIC plate coin) are the other examples. All have the same obverse die, Clay 2010 and my coin are die pair matches. These bare portraits were struck with the Pax reverse in both 75 (unique) and in 76. Why the engraver chose an unlaureate bust is a mystery. Perhaps struck in error, which would explain why so few were minted.

Turn it 180degrees and it looks like a pistol on the Rev... ah, those crafty ancients, they had much more technology than we ever dreamed of. Just the other day I was reading about the Roman Air Force...
