Here's another recent NEWP -- an Isabella Quarter. I've been searching for a nice example of this coin for several years. As many of you will know, the Isabella Quarter was the first U.S. coin to feature the portrait of an actual female; the first commemorative quarter; and, the only U.S. coin to feature a woman on both sides of the coin. It celebrates the women’s role in industry, and was issued in 1893 in conjunction with the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. I first saw this coin in a dealer's inventory several months ago, but alas, was beaten to the punch by a fellow collector. Fortunately, he's a friend of mine, and offered me the coin (along with the Seated Quarter posted earlier and a large cent to follow) before putting most of his collection up for sale. The coin is graded by PCGS. Please guess the grade PCGS assigned the coin, the grade YOU assign the coin, and please feel free to share your thoughts, both good and bad, on the coin: Have fun...Mike
I don't believe I see any rub, so I will say PCGS graded it ms-64, which would be my grade as well. It appears to have very pleasing eye appeal. Another nice coin!
PCGS graded the coin MS 64. The coin is a bit darker, particularly near the edges, than the photos suggest. THat said, unlike many darkly toned MS coins, it retains a large amount of luster visible in the photos, and even more evident in-hand. The coin is probably technically a 63 in terms of ticks and taps, but got a bump for the color, which is very attractive, and not easily captured in the photos. These coins are not very easy to find attractively toned, and I am very happy with this example. I can finally cross this one off my wantlist. Thakns to all that participated. Have a nice weekend...Mike
From the listing: "Picture is for display purposes." Mike, I looked back at the post on your quarter and it sure looks like a match. Gang, in my opinion, this sellers store has the smell of walleye. Dora the explorer trike next to a couple high grade early gold pieces??? And note the disclaimers like the one above from the quarter listing. Good grief. Edit: Oops, got excited and put this reply in the wrong thread. Oh well, brought it to the top so people can compare the pics as I did http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=26857
