Cud on 1797 Mo Spanish 8 Reales ?

    Has anyone ever seen this on a coun I've been looking at ? There seems to be a raised spot it almost looks stylised but I can't find another like it. It's the only fault I can pick with it.. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1439073684.400331.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1439073691.480259.jpg

    It's because of when they put the counterstamp, it caused that mark on the other side of the coin when it was stamped

    Sorry, that's not the part I mean. On the obverse where the counterstamp is. The date 1797

    The first 7 seems to have flick on it..
    Looking somewhat like this..

    I see what your talking about, but it's not a cud. Definition: A cud is a die break that involves the rim and at least a little bit of the adjacent field or design.

    Well.. It certainly has the look of it. I work in a press shop (albeit making car panels) and usually you're talking a double blank or scrap build up to cause something like that generally a double blank would cause the whole detail to be a mess.
