The 'Dark side' is upon us. The ancient fellows post prolifically and politely, while we US collectors stand by and scwabble. There isn't a day or moment that goes by that, when I hit 'new posts', I don't see five or six threads relating to ancients at the top of the list. What gives? What happened to the good old days when all I'd see were posts on US classical or modern coins. This 'ancient' phenomena is a bain that must be destroyed. Inherent politeness on their part, has no place in these forums. Treating each other with respect and admiration is most foreign indeed. We must wipe out this disease......

Loves you ancient guys though. :)

I attribute this most dastardly of late phenomena to that 'rouge of rouges' @stevex....

I enjoy looking at ancients, (coins that is). However, I have not yet bought any ancient coins because many seem crudely made and I would have difficulty determining the real coins from the fakes.
I do agree that the ancients collectors are a polite and civil group, maybe it's in their DNA?

DNA? RNA? They're just too.........polite. I can't get over it. They all..........like each other.

What a better world it would be if we followed their example......:)

Yeah, they may be polite, but they are a bunch of sharks. I posted an ancient once, asking what it was and instantly received three pm's offering half what it was worth.

Don't such practices exist on the 'modern side' too? Not talkin' 'bout 'business here my friend. Just observations regarding prominence and politeness........

Remind them all U.S. coinage will be classified as ancients one day. We just have the foresight to see that and buy them now. :>)

It's a smaller, more intimate community. But those that are there, are die-hard, hard core, borderline obsessed.

And I mean that in a good way! :D

I thought I found 4 ancients coins, but they turned out to have images of Yule Brenner, Charlton Heston, Liz Taylor, & Richard Burton on them.

While I'm mainly a U.S. Collector, I sure don't mind learning about how our hobby began and seeing some really cool coins. But I think it's a friendlier group for several reasons.
    1. It's not a competition for them, they see a cool coin that another guy has and they like it.
    2. They don't need to argue if a coin was previously cleaned, properly graded artificially toned.
    3. They don't need to pay attention to minute die varieties because all of them are.
    4. They all just seem like good guys who like sharing a common interest.
