Horrible pictures taken on my phone. I just snapped a few to capture some dates mainly. I can take some better ones when I get home. Gramps gave me a few rolls of Big silver dollars and some loose ones. He says the rolls have pretty much the same Morgan and Peace dollars. Are the ones pictured "common"? Anything to look for while searching. Thanks.
You can search the Morgans for VAM's. A couple of them looked polished. Not sure about Peace dollars, don't really know anything about them.
Some of the coins were in perfect condition. They are in those 2x2's, the dust and fibers were on the protective coverings. He said my Grandmother used to get them from the mint and a few were from a friend who's husband used to own a coinshop. What exactly is a VAM? Thanks for the reply Mark.
I don't think any of the Morgans came directly from the Mint. They all look improperly cleaned or polished. VAM is an acronym for the last names of Leroy Van Allen and A. George Mallis who wrote the book on Morgan and Peace varieties. Chris
Thanks cpm9ball for the info. He has a bunch of coins from my Grandmother, not sure if he meant the Morgan's or Peace dollars specifically came from the mint or some of the other coins. He has given me a few rolls of mercs that look uncirculated. He is like me and don't know much about coins. I'm just starting to get into the hobby.
Check the Merc's for the 1919-P DDO with strong doubling on IGWT. It was just discovered this year. Chris
