NZ was pretty late in terms of the colonization thingy, so being late to mint their own coinage is sort of poetic justice
That's a great coin! Too bad about it's entombment though. I have always admired your collecting habits and your choice of issues to collect. BTW: Did you photograph the coin over a bag of rice?
Thanks, you and I like a lot of the same stuff. I definitely don't see slabbing as a benefit and I don't like how I can't store this with my other coins. The only good thing is I know it's authentic, which can be important with key dates. I'm not knowledgeable enough to spot a fake. And no, that's just the bedroom carpet in the background. I don't have a fancy coin photography setup like some do.
I've been scanning my NZ coins to post online and I see I have a couple that need upgrades. So the holes are filled for now but I would like to get nicer examples of a couple.
That's where my interests have taken me in the last few years as well. I gather you collect complete date series. I only collect type sets, so my task is less daunting.
Yes, I do aim for the complete date series with varying levels of success. I have most of the British coins from about 1900 (not including gold and really scarce varieties) with pennies to 1860. But some countries like Jamaica I need a lot more coins than I have. But I am working on collections of New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Jamaica, British Honduras, India, Hong Kong, Ceylon, Straits Settlements, Malaya, Southern Rhodesia, East Africa, West Africa, Canada and probably a few others. It keeps me busy.
