The number of 1995 DDO Lincolns is relatively huge compared to the major 72/72 DDO and was discovered quickly after the coins hit the market, so there were many bags still available to research. It was not so for the 72/72 die #1 and the later, less costly ones.

Rip it open for varieties or errors or sell it. I got $65 a bag for misc. dates and mints.

hile your numbers do add up, you;'ve not considered the most important aspect with regard to the 1972 Lincolns.

Specifically, there were a number of doubled dies which occured during that minting and some of those, and I'm not refering to the big one, command significant premiums. (10 different DDO Varieties with DDO-004 being the toughest and most expensive!)

It's conceivable that the OP's original bag could go as high as $500 if not more "just" for the priviledge of looking.

I have seen a couple of unopened 72 bags on eBay go for $1000. I have even seen an 84 bag go for $500. Regular, common unopened bags (73, 74, 77, 79) are regularly going for $150-$170.

Having never seen a mint-sewn bag of coins up close before, how do you know it has not been tampered with?

You'd get a better and faster responce with this question in a new thread.

The pennies will be in good demand but might not get a good price since there are many sources for these. The nickels are remarkable since so few exist. The demand is sparse so value won't be extreme but the supply is miniscule. An entire bag is enough to affect supply so will reduce the price. Selling it in the dark I'd guess it's about $9,000 to the right buyer. However there may be Gems are very scarce opening up the possibility that it could bring much more.

If the bag is shop worn or questionable it wil be harder to sell. If I were selling what I thought was a nice bag I'd be inclined to look for the Gems and varieties and piece it out ten or twenty rolls at a time. If you just want an offer I can suggest a few places that would make one.

I'd be interested in any details you'd be willing to disclose.

I missed this post in 2011.

Some of these can be ascertained but none appear in my records. I've always been inclined to chase these more by location than date. The 1969 DDO, for instance showed up principally in southern Michigan.

While the odds of finding most varieties in bags are poor odds are that if one is there then there will be many more.

You might want to shop around a little. Private collectors can be very interested in some of these. You might get a deal that's contingent on what's in the bag and if the buyer is honest you'll do much better. The odd of there being a few very valuable coins is really fairly good.

Barring this I'd predict you'd get the best price for the nickel bag at Arizona Coin and Jewelry (I have no connection) and the best price for the pennies at Littleton (NH)(again, no connection).

Send me a private message and I might be willing to try to hook you up with a collector. If you can hang onto the coins they might be much more valuable and easier to sell in a few years. If this had it's own thread I could search it later but I'll never remember it's in a '72 penny thread.

Any Buy/sell/trade discussions must be on the advertising forum, they are not allowed on other forum areas. Richard, I think you meant black box, which is his avatar listing. Go to that and click 'start a conversation', but do not continue such on this thread, start a new one in "For Sale " or "Trade" subforums. Thanks.
