Has anyone here had the pleasure of viewing/handling an 1823 bust quarter

The reason I ask, is I've been searching hard for one of these(not to purchase, as they are mega bucks), and no one seems to have any for sale. I suspect this coin is much scarcer than listed values indicate.

You may be onto something there, I don't have one either, and don't recall seeing one.

I have not. That seems to be a date that never shows up in anyone's inventory, or even on ebay.

I looked at Heritage's archives and they have only auctioned 5 of them off since 2001, and most were fairly low quality.

1823 is a real problem date, and although there is not much intrest in it, it is really hard to find.

I did have the opportunity to examine the 1823/2 specimen that Rich Uhrich had for sale at the PAN show last weekend. It has damage and is low grade, but it was still really neat to view such a rare quarter.

Wow! Thank you so much for that link. The price doesn't seem all that unreasonable given the scarcity of the coin. It's too bad that so many of the existing ones have been damaged.
