I have a 2006 uncirculated philadelphia coin set i purchased from the mint website. When i recieved it i noticed that i had Two of the same coins (colorado) in the package. Has anyone heard of this, or know how much they might be worth? I really appreciate any and all help...Thanks a ton!
I read somewhere...think it was the canadian mint...that if they run out of coin for the set, they simple replace it with another and thats why the double
i dont think they would seriously do that .. its purposely misleading the potential buyer making them think their are certain coins, and then just arbitrarily putting in a different ... lawsuit heaven if that were the case lol i dont know the exact cause, smarter people then me can answer that, but i do know it does happen in the states that a mint set will have a duplicate coin....
It is not deliberate, Coin World just ran a column on this packaging error. They said that most dealers would not pay extra, in fact, some collectors pay less since they have to still get the other coin.
I would think on ebay it would bring a premium, and I would bet in the future the value would go up. In the sealed mint set, as apposed to the proof sets, I would think it would be a sought after error. If people pay extra for microscopic state quarter errors I would think people would pay for a packaging error.
Yes they probably would, but does that mean it's worth it ? No, it doesn't. It merely means that somebody doesn't know any better.
