Here's a recent purchase. The coin was originally graded by NGC -- it was in an old "fattie" holder and it is now raw. Please guess the grade that NGC assigned to it, discuss the grade YOU would assign to it, and any comments (both good and bad) you may have. FWIW, the coin is slightly darker than the photos suggest. Have fun...Mike
XF-40 ? VF-35? Decent coin, but I can see wear on liberty's body, and loss of detail around the reverse shield
Very pleasing coin IMO. Totally original. The coin has some central striking weakness, which I think makes this coin tricky, but personally I would grade the coin an AU-53 , and suspect NGC called it a 50.
Nice coin! I really do not know anything about these and the one I have was harshly polished. My guess is NGC gave it AU50. What I have problems with is the reverse left side of the eagles neck and the shield. It almost looks like the neck and part of the shield are filled or not completly struck. So I am not sure what that does to the grade. Still a nice coin.
I love this coin. It has a nice, crusty look to it. I think there is some striking weakness shown on the shield on the reverse. I'm am going to say that NGC had it in an XF-45 holder, but I think it is an AU-53. I would love to own that coin!
Mike. I would say ex-fine 45 and I believe it has been lightly cleaned at one time and again another great camera shot. Bruce.
Id call it AU 50. It has a nice original skin. The battle ship grey color is always prevalent on these & I suspect NGC was a bit more conservitaive & graded this XF45. A nice pick up ! & The old fatty NGC holders were so cool I miss them...
I'll have to go with XF-40. Obv. The leg and breast show flatness, Rev. That shield on the left side.. Very nice coin. Nothing distracting at all so it wouldnt surprise me if it comes in a little higher.
