With the substantial price increases for the 3 piece gold and the 3 piece silver set. can anyone speculate as to why the secondary market hasn't increased it's prices on the 2 piece gold and silver set? I was one of the 20,000 collectors who purchased a set and " did'nt" send it back to the mint. I don't ever plan on selling it, but I am curious for your opinions if the set will ever climb in value. Any thoughts?

I think the set will increase in value over time. Many of the sets have been broken up and sold individually. The Silver Eagle is bringing prime prices so many of them are for sale. I am surprised that the value has actually gone down. The sets I have been looking at are going for under 800.The 850 original cost is not that far off. I will hold on to them, wait for the market to stabilize.

the 3 piece is so expensive because of the reverse proof alone. .. the gold/silver set.. did it have a reverse proof ? i cant remember ... if it doesnt, that would explain to me why the price hasnt flown the coup like the 3 piece set did ...

The silver coin has gone up in value, the gold coin is a dud though due to mintage. It will follow the price of gold though.

You also get the Silver 'W' mint mark on the Unc/burnished coin and as stated above the reverse proof. That set as well as the three piece gold set will stay high and maybe go even higher. The demand of SAE collectors will prove that out.......

There is nothing special about the 2 pc gold and silver set except for the silver coin and maybe the box Seems to me that People by the hundreds canceled this particular item after they relized this. No reverse proof in the two piece set

I asked a question similar to this a few days ago. I , at the suggestion of some, checked E Bay to see what some of the NGC gold anniversary 3 pc sets were going for . One in a NGC label went for 8k and another the bid was at 8k with the reserve not being met the last time i looked. This was for the 70 grade.

I was not going to tell this but what the heck it is kind of interesting. One of the sellers in his sales pitch posted on his ad that there was a RUMOR that some dealers/speculator had gotten together and was purchasing all the regular proofs in the 3 pc anniversary sets they could as to make it very difficult to get the entire set in the 70 grade. It just goes to show one that you can hear/read anything if you look long enuff.
