I have to pay to make a cash deposit? . . . Really?

Well, it had to happen sooner or later . . . My bank has begun charging 9 cents per roll of coins over 10, whether deposited at or withdrawn from the bank. This doesn't really affect me, as I don't hunt through rolls like many of you do.

Just as bad however, for currency they now are charging $2.50 per $1000 over $5000, whether deposited or withdrawn. While that won't affect me often, it's the introduction of another revenue pipeline that disturbs me.

While the introductory rate is not hard to deal with, it opens the floodgates for future increases, sort of like the government introducing a new tax.

This kind of thing really burns me, too. I mean, seriously... a modest monthly fee I can deal with, particularly if it can be waived with a certain average balance or direct deposit/etc. ATM fees, I begrudgingly accept as well. But, if my bank started charging me to deposit or withdraw my own money, I'd be closing my account and taking it somewhere else.

And, don't get me started on "convenience fees" for paying bills and such online....

I banked at a bank that sold to a larger bank that started doing that about 6 years ago. They charged .10 for the deposit. .10 per item in the deposit. All checks were items and $1000 cash was a item. Then they charged $5 to cash a check on their account. I had 3 banknotes there and 2 checking accounts and a savings account. Moved what I could immediately. The notes took a little while to move and they started constantly asking for all kinds of paperwork on my finances. Said when I moved my accounts they had no tracking of my financial status. Really really PO'ed me. I had banked there my entire life.

I'd have told them to buzz off. Unless it's an open-ended line of credit, as long as I'm making my payments, they have no business worrying about any of my other financial dealings.

I wonder if they charge kids under 10 a fee . How are they supposed to learn the benifits of saving if they have to pay a fee every month . I have to keep at least a $5000 balance to avoid a fee . So basically they're getting at least 5 grand to loan and make interest on for no cost . I have a fealling the only thing the kids of today will learn is greed .

I have to wait 30 minutes in line to make a deposit. I would pay a fee to just get out the door without the wait.

Along these same lines, have those of you who bank at Bank of America noticed that they have gotten rid of all the tellers except one? While they are not charging new fees, I surmise the intent of minimal tellers is to force you to do all your banking at the ATM where you can deposit checks now in addition to other services which is new to me. Apparently they no longer want interaction with their customers.

I don't really want to interact with banks, either. I consider dealing with my bank and insurance company to be necessary evils in the modern world.

The bank is getting use of my money. Shouldn't be charging me. That's why our major account is at a bank that pays us a good interest rate on our checking account, and with minimal usage, we have no fees for ATM usage or anything else.

Get a new bank. My bank holds old coins and neat paper for me. Since I'm in daily I get it all for face. Silver, old coins like buffalo nickels, wheat pennies, etc., star notes, red, blue, brown and yellow bills, radar notes, etc. I've trained them well. 9 wheat pennies in 2 days all for $.09. No surcharges.

EVER happens again have a shyster w/pull demand your funds' release NOW. Tell everyone you know to pull theirs out too! The current "rob everyone" mentality will only stop when we go back to getting gold coins and burying them in the yard again.....

I never have totally trusted banks. Even less so now.
Edit to add this. I personally know over half the board of directors of that bank. You have to have a substantial account to be on a board. I know how they got their money. Exactly why I don't trust them.

There are a couple B of A branches around me I have noticed this at. I'm close to changing from them. There are 5 employees in the building but only one can be a teller while the rest standing around.

Not to be sarcastic but, times are changing. My daughter never goes to the bank. She just photos her salery check on her iPhone and deposits the amount from her car/house/wherever; uses ATM for cash; and pays her bills online. Now with ApplePay / Starbucks and other businesses one just pays by iPhone from coffee to a coin via PayPal.
I just go with the flow, and use the services I am comfortable with. In my Branch, there is no Teller window; all ATM. But 5 minutes away is another Branch, same bank with 3 Teller windows ( where I deposit my searched, loose coins from Boxes provided by my Branch.)
Hay, seems to work and all are happy.

Ten years ago my bank went public, meaning the officers now get stock options and other assorted benefits. Most of their fees went up substantially. I seriously doubt they would remain in business if their "assets" were valued at market. I keep minimal balances at banks and do most of my transactions on line.

    to the OP,

Once you get to this point. There is usually very little you can do to reverse the Bank or Bank manager's opinion. It may make more sense to find a new bank. If you use that bank for non-CRH features, it is definitely a good idea to stop using them as a dump location.

Hope you find a new location / better Bank or CU soon!
