One AGE 4-Coin Set Uncirculated 6. Four Presidential Spouse Gold Proof coins 7. One Buffalo 4-Coin Set Proof 8. One Buffalo 4-Coin Set Uncirculated But, I can't. I have a maximum of $2K to spend... Which ONE option (1-8) whould you buy, to pass it on to your kid(s)? I am not trying to complete any set. I just want to buy one of the above which are (individually) within my price range. Please help... alhas
Go for the gold!! If it were me I would have to go with one of the gold 4 coin proof sets. For me it's hard to beat the look of gold. I would hate to speculate on future values, so I would go with the one with the most eye appeal. Anybody can recognize gold.
Alhas, this was supposed to be posted in the 'Open' section of the forum,as you are advertising to buy something. Can a moderator please shift this thread? Aidan.
One of the 4 pc. gold sets myself. With the buffalo's you have the first year of it type if that kind of stuff interest you. Wait for the mintage figures . With gold being split in so many directions all may be low mintage. last we heard in here, there is going to be gold Buffalo's in 4 coin sets, proof and uncirculated. Some of those government offices has got to sign off on it but it is supposedly a done deal. collect what you like , some pretty good stuff you listed . Hard to go wrong with any of them. I like the platinum anniversary set myself but that is because i do not have any platinum.
Aidan Work, Sorry, I do not know what the "Open" section is. Is it the "Coin Forum"? Thanks to the others for their opinion. Sure appreciate your thoughts! Please keep your them comming!
Welcome to the forum and don't pay him any attenion... The rest of us can tell it was a request, not a request to buy something from us.... BTW, thats a tough descision... Which way are you leaning and why???
smullen, Thanks for your response. With all the excitement of the 20th Aniversary AGE, which I could not buy due to being soldout condition, I am leaning to 10th Aniversary APE. Am I falling in the trap, I don't know. I also love the Buffalo and all Eagles I listed above. Wish I can buy them all but, I must contain myself and decide on only one option. Any thoughts, would be appreciated. Thanks, alhas
If I were you, I would buy the 10th anniversary APE. Then I will save up for a AGE uncirculated 4-coin set or a buffalo 4-coin gold set at some point in the future. 2007 AGE uncirculated 4-coin set is the second set in the series. So, nothing really special about it. As for the buffao 4-coin set, it is unclear if it will be produced this year. If it will be produced and the mintage is extremely low, then I would go with this set. Otherwise, my vote goes to the 10th anniversary APE. In fact, if the 10th anniversary APE rises in the secondary market, you could sell it and possibly buy 4-coin gold set (AGE or buffalo) at a total net cost of zero (assuming that the appreciation inthe APE 10th ann. equals to the price of the 4-coin gold set). Finally, the APE 10th anniversary set will contain a reverse proof platinum ... the first of its kind in the US.
If it were me I'd just buy $1500 dollars worth of worn out Morgan Dollars and $500 dollars on a torch to tone the coins with and put them on Ebay and watch your profits grow!!!
I wouldn't buy any of them---but if you really are set on one of those then I would go for the 10th Ann APE set. If you want someting else I would pick maybe a few Key Dates...such as a nice AU/MS 1909-S VDB. Speedy
Since you are buying for someone else to inherit, and you don't know yet whether they will become avid collectors, I would go a different route. I'd buy a one ounce gold eagle, one ounce buffalo, and one ounce canadian maple leaf [all uncirculated, not proof]. These are easy to resell at close to fair value and require very little expertise to value. The more complicated you make things, the greater the chance that the kids will eventually get ripped off.
Thanks you all for excellent guidance. I will order 10th Anniversary APE in the first hour of the first day when they go on sale. If I get few extra $s by the end of the year, I will buy the fractional gold buffalo either proof or uncirculated.
Cloudsweeper99, Sorry, I did not see your response before I posted my reply. You have an excellent idea. Boy, I am glad I have some time to decide. As you can tell I am not very wishy-washy....
key dates... yummy! Of the choices listed, if I am to give my personal opinion it would be to buy the Buffalo set. No telling how many are going to be made ( if any! ), and the buffalo design has been popular with collectors in several forms now ( nickel, commemorative dollar, and now .9999 gold ). IMHO it should continue to be popular in years to come. This coupled with the fact that it is .9999 pure gold, gives these coins value that they will retain for a very long time. just my 2¢ worth
i want to buy i want to buy 14 pc silver proof set or 14 pc proof set. some 2007 w silver & gold coins. others, i don't think so.
