Recently another post mentioned the new first lady gold coins. I am intrigued by the design choices for the presidents who were widowed or single or otherwise first lady-less. I am glad that they have decided to use old coin designs for this series. Other than the gallery mint, it may be the only way to ever own a MS Bust gold coin! Does anyone plan on buying them? Also, didn't I hear that they were considering a bronze version of these? Or have I flashed back to the old gasoline station coins?
I plan on buying them. The mint will issue bronze medals that correspond to the gold coins, but the bronze coins will not be actual money (not legal tender) and will be missing some of the design elements on the gold coins. I plan to order those also, since they will be so inexpensive.
From the CFA minutes from 5/18/06 "In addition, there would be a duplication of the designs in bronze medals which would use the same designs as the gold coins but without the inscriptions—"E Pluribus Unum", "Liberty", and "In God We Trust"—required for the coins. "
