There is a duplicate fake of my previously posted coin now being offered on a well known online venue. Memorize this coin before you bid on this type. If it has the centering, defect at left and banker's mark on cheek, do not be fooled.

I saw it earlier, looked like Bings old fake.

I no longer own that coin and I guess I deleted all the images as well. But if my memory serves me (and it usually doesn't) I believe there was a banker's mark on the cheek which is what made me think authentic.

I've now seen around ten of these. The banker's mark is part of the cast but does add to the danger.

I believe what happened here is we lost the link when the admins removed my accidental post. I asked them to save this one and delete the dupe which only had one reply which was in violation of the CT rules against discussing politics and religion unless they are ancient politics and religion. I noticed that the seller of the coin has two different listings at the same price but do not know if they have two fakes or just erred in making a double post. Sellers tend to be unwilling to believe some jerk who tells them their coin is a fake but this one is without doubt so I give them the benefit of the doubt to see if the lot goes down. It is how we determine if the name needs to go on the Fake Sellers List or just marked up to being uninformed.

Damn, that's a convincing fake....and the fact I could be so easily fooled makes me shake my head in disappointment---especially after trying so hard to distinguish fakes from the real deal. Probably the only reason I haven't already purchased one is I generally buy RR denarii of a slightly higher grade...

That is the problem. The faker could have fooled me and the super honest dealer I bought it from OR Bing but when we discovered several coins that were all exactly the same off center with exactly the same flan flaw and exactly the same test mark we knew all of them were bad. All I have seen have had some 'weathering' applied so they appeared different and 'used' but they were newly made with intent to deceive.

I purchased one of these at a flea market a few years ago. After I determined it to be a fake I tried to find that guy but never saw him again. I keep it displayed to remind me of how easy it is to lose $40.

It still amazes me at how proficient these forgers have become......weathering and the whole nine yards...

    chrsmat71 I LIKE TURTLES!

it looks like it has a pretty good seam on the edge in the DS pic, not really on bing's.

thanks for head up, i'm going coin shopping this weekend!
