Double Strike Proof 1950 Roosevelt Dime

    Hello- I was looking at this Roosevelt Dime and it appears the chin has a double strike. What are your ideas on this coin? What do you think the impact on value is? Thank you.

    If it were a double strike there would be a lot more doubling. To me it looks like an affect of the lighting. I could be wrong but it makes the most sense, at least to me.

    All proofs are supposed to be struck multiple times. It's entirely possible that the die was improperly secured within the press, and that the first and second impressions were not in perfect alignment.

    I think this hits the nail on the head. Also looks like three strikes rather than two.

    Say I went and got the actual coin and you know what- I think you are right- never trust a picture no matter how expensive....

    I've taken a lot of coin pictures and it's amazing what you'll find when you look at some of them. Would have been interesting had you seen what shows in the picture though. Thanks for sharing.

    Especially on highly mirrored proofs I've found. The light just bounces all over the place.
