Has anyone had problems dealing with this EBay dealer: User ID highrating_lowprice (Feedback score 15551) 100% positive feedback Items for saleVisit storeContact My name is Ilya Zlobin. I am an expert, enthusiast, author and trusted dealer in numismatic coins. I love the history that Ancient, Greek, Roman, USA and World coins connect us to. For questions regarding my eBay items, call me at 1-917-776-7363 I can not bid or buy from him get will not accept any offers & will not reply to my questions sent to him??
He has been discussed here a number of times and I'll recap my experiences for you. Although many may disagree, I have no objection to his business practices. He often prices coins 10+ times their usual "retail" value and then discounts them by a seemingly large amount, yet still the coins are overpriced. However, most also have a "make offer" button. His inventory is huge and there are certainly some interesting coins and rarities there, although most are low grade. I've purchased two or three coins from him via the "make offer" button. My offers were on the slightly generous side of reasonable and they were accepted (they were rarities I'd been unsuccessful in finding elsewhere). I have had a few offers rejected. Apparently he has an automated reply for offers; I received notice of whether my offers were accepted or rejected immediately after submission. I'm surprised that he hasn't replied to your questions. I don't recall having asked him any direct questions though, having only interacted with him by the "make offer" button. Can you expand upon what you mean? Have you tried the "make offer" button? If he's not responsive to questions, that is certainly a problem.
Anyone operating 13 years on eBay with a perfect 15000+ Feedback must be doing something right. I read his most recent Feedbacks, and 90% of his recent sales were on a "Best Offer Accepted" basis. I have never dealt with him. If he's Russian, or perhaps Arabic, he has a much different philosophy of buying and selling than Americans do. Not necessarily bad, just different.
I have tried to make an offer for even a cent less than what he wants & get immediate will not accept When I try to buy outright, I get immediate will not accept any offers When I have sent him a question- I get no response from him I see his 13 years & feedback rating, but I can not even get a hold of this fellow???
No problems here. His selling tactics are cheesy, but you've just got to know the market and make a reasonable offer. All of mine have been accepted.
Huh. That is certainly odd. You'd think he'd jump all over any offer that was only a cent less than the inflated "discount" price. I haven't looked at his inventory in a long time. Maybe I'll see if there is anything I want and make an offer to see if I get a response. (any excuse to shop for another coin )
At Least 30+ I buy mainly on EBay & from a one dealer separately I have a good buyer rating & have had no problems with any dealer??
Bingo. The only things I can think of are... 1) Doesn't meet buyer requirements made by seller 2) Is on blocked list 3) eBay glitch
He blocked you, so he isn't even seeing your offers or messages. All it takes is pissing off one dealer, many dealers will share their lists of blocked ebayers with other dealers, that's how you probably got on his list if you've never done business with him before.
I had the same thing happen to me sometime in the past year from another seller on Ebay. No reason why and none given, but I was blocked. I have a very good buyers profile, so truly I was and am perplexed. Needless to say, I just pass over this seller's wares even though he routinely offers items of which I am interested.
It doesn't pay to get on anyone's bad side, whether you are the buyer or the seller. This is a pretty tight-knit community, and word gets around.
Since I am not a coin collector, I can't comment on his coins (their prices or their authenticity). That said, I have appreciated his enthusiasm for ancient history. Through numismatics, he gives a nice outline of ancient history. He never says anything controversial, but he does not delve too deeply into the history, either. The video below, for example, shows some nice numismatic examples of the Nerva-Antonine (Adoptive) Emperors: The Trajan sestertius at 2:08 is pretty interesting. The reverse shows Trajan seated on chair upon a raised platform presenting Parthamaspates (a Roman client King of the Parthian Empire) to a kneeling Parthia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parthamaspates_of_Parthia His slick salesmanship is a little too much for me, but I enjoy his promotion of the study of ancient history. guy
You are right, Guy. Right about some of his write-ups being interesting. But as a collector, he prices all his coins at least double the going prices. Yes, he does accept reasonably offers, but I wonder how many non-collectors or new collectors have bought at his inflated offers?
I bought my first Greek coin off of him. It was an auction, which seems out of the ordinary for him, and I'm actually really happy with the price--a Thessaly bronze for ten dollars shipped and in pretty good shape (pretty good shape for my low-rent collection, that is). Having said that, I haven't seen anything else he's selling that I would buy for what he's asking, and I watched for a while after that first purchase. He also added me to a mailing list without asking, and I got nearly-daily spam from him until I finally asked to be removed.
