With JW scoring some gold cheaply I had my own homer not too long ago. This was listed on eBay for $59, after watching the whole week, during the last 3 sec. a mini bid war happened and I scored this wonderful Tiberius Tetradrachm for $96 shipped!

These seem to average $250 & more.

Emmett lists it as common and I do find other examples, but who cares, it's a super score for my side collection of tetradrachms and my first Tiberius Silver.

It also has a nice provenance that I didn't know about till it arrived.

Way to go Mat. That's a super buy on a super coin. The difference between my score and yours is that you have been wanting a silver of Tiberius. I wasn't in the market for either gold or Valens. I think it feels better when it's something that fulfills part of your wish list. Congratulations my friend.

Believe it or not I wasn't in the market for a silver tiberius. I was happy with my AS *now owned by a fellow CT collector*, but if a silver surfaced in my lowly budget i'd add it.

This surfaced instead, and i'm more then happy.

I would still add a tribute penny if the price was right.

Wonderful coin! Wish I'd seen it. Maybe I should start trolling eBay ;)

Small correction, which in no way lessens the appeal of your coin... it's not an AR tetradrachm, it's a billion tetradrachm.

Awesome catch Mat! It's always satisfying to come out on top after a "mini bidding war", especially if you don't shill out as much as the coin would normally retail.

Super score Mat---whether a billion Tet or not!!! I LOVE it!!!

As I keep repeating......Tets will be a growing focus of mine as the months move on....and from time to time a few terrific coins do show up on e-Bay at great prices...but the sellers who offer them may not be those we are most familiar with or the ones we have become most comfortable with....

Hmm, I think A-noob wants e-Bay all for himself ;) LOL

That's a pretty damn big score. I should hope to find busts of Augustus and Tiberius that good someday.
