That makes two of us - this is a new one on me. And it appears it's a new one on everybody else too because I can find no referrence whatsoever for doubled denticles. I actually hope it turns out the coin is genuine for Tommy's sake. Besides, if it is - then maybe I just discovered a new variety
Thank you GDJMSP I hope it is too, so far I have alot of info on the coin that adds up...The only thing I have not confirmed yet is the outside edge of coin, like you were talking about last night. It looks like a gear the other coins I see do not have that. Well I did see one that faintly looked like it, but I think it is just the angle of the pics they take (straight down). Is it possible that the other coin edges smoothed out? I guess all I am trying to find out is do these coins have edges like a quarter (like mine) or is it supposed to be smooth like a nickle? It is definetely not from jewerly though cause it is perfect around the coin all the way. I think it is the angle of the pics. So if anyone knows please help me find out the answer Iappreciate everything everyone has helped me with thus far! Thanks again, Tommy
If these dentils are doubled and authentic specimens have doubling in the dentils, then I have some hope again that this coin could be authentic. If not, then it would be a deceptive counterfeit done by someone who knew diagnostics of the original piece, or had access to a genuine specimen. Tommy, do you have any history on this coin? Do you know where it came from and where it has been? Thanks.
Shortgap, Sorry I didn't reply earlier I just got home from aruba, we had a blast but were BROKE! The coin was found in our drawer at home when I was searching for some change for the aruba fund before we left. It was someones on my wifes side of the family we think. We called her mother the night we found the coin and she is not sure, but that is the only option we can think of. It was very strange how it just appeared. People are telling us sometimes good things happen to good people! Well I just sent it registered mail to NGC so we will see what happens! I have heard some good info on it being authentic so I really hope she comes back a nice grade! She is such a beauty!!! I am going to be selling the coin through heritage when it comes back. I will keep everyone informed. Thanks again for everyones help! Tommy
Well there is one way to find out---call Heritage.... One bit of advise...I wouldn't tell them what kindof coin you might be selling. There is that chance still that it might either come back fake or damaged and if Heritage thinks that you have such a coin they might bug you with mail and calls.... We have two members here on CT that work for Heritage and I have done a few dealings with them and find them helpful and friendly! Speedy
Any update ? NGC is pretty fast sometimes. They'll e-mail you when it's shipped, and they'll tell you the results at that time. This one has really piqued my curiousity !
I don't know about that---I just got an email telling me that they shipped my coins but they don't tell the results. Speedy
Tommy, Unless they have changed their fees recently, I have heard that Heritage only charges the Seller/Consignor 5 percent for most consignment sales for large lots or repeat business! However, this may be the same fee that they charge all Sellers/Consignors but can't be sure. Considering the potential price that your coin may bring, I think that they would be satisfied with the 5 percent! Hopefully you will get it back soon, as you will have to consign the coin to Heritage by the end of May to make it available for the 2007 Summer F.U.N. Signature Coin Auction in West Palm Beach, Florida in July. Most of the Major Rare Coin Dealers and Major Players (Collectors/Investors) in the world of coins, will be at the Show and the coin will get some serious looks and bids. Frank
