what do you think about the shield cent could there be a double die or not? on the first picture the J f M look to me as if they were thicker than normal on the second picture it shows 9th stripe instead of the normal Eight stripes
The design is not bad, but overall the shield cents look cheap to me. Even after the composition change in 1982, the zinc version seemed to get thinner and lighter. I also don't like the newer cent color. I don't see the same red as in the older ones.
Yes, there could be a doubled die in the shield cent series. This is not one of them. I see some evidence of die deterioration, but no real doubling. PS: I like the shield part, but I wish they'd have retired or at least redone Honest Abe as well.
Do they change any part of abe and if so about how many times have they change it? I mean if they did retired honest abe what would or could replace abe? Thank you for your help i will find a nice DD shield 69 style. LOL yes i will someday what am i talking about i cant even find a double
Look above the 9th stripe. Just below the E is a line which continues and gives the appearance of a stripe when in fact, it's post mint damage. No real doubling. Looks more like a plating blister to me. I prefer the wheat ear pennies over the memorial but both are extremely nice. The shield is barely worth my time.
All shield pennies are zinc. Zinc is a light weight and soft metal so it damages more easily than copper. When you think you've found something different about the coin, learn to look around the area not just at the problem. It can only help you.
