  4. Hmmm. .. I was the owner. For about a year. I am constantly upgrading my collection. Every time I find a better coin from a series, I would sell the old one. You can see my upgrades in Lesbos Last emission. What I have now.. it's beyond beauty.

Had me fooled. Thank you for the very informative post. It was very interesting to know those things. This is why I love ancient coins. The history aspect is great

Absolutely. As in anything, there is a wide range in what people can and choose to collect. Regardless of your price level, we're able to own pieces of human history that are two thousand years old: that's pretty incredible!

These coins are indeed fantastic (and very different from the hektes as JA pointed out). Considering that some estimate the statues of Nike would have allowed for 100,000 coins to be minted, it's surprising that so few are known today, especially with some denominations only in single-digit populations. They're nearly at the top of my wantlist but will likely be there for a long time, waiting for the next to come to market.

I agree with John. In fact I JUST read about that LAST night in a good book I recently acquired: "Collecting Greek Coins" by John Anthony... :D :D :D (And, no the John Anthony above tells me he is not the author! ... so many coincidences in life!)

I go off on a little vacation to visit my 101 YO MIL and you guys almost get in fights. Be good and I won't make you look at the 11 coins I got today. None are gold, none are EF and several are overstrikes which will take me a while to decipher. I still believe that there is virtue in Wabi Sabi numismatics. I know I get more enjoyment from my technically challenged coins than from their perfect relatives.

At the mercy of public WiFi for the week so who knows when I'll be posting again.

    Ancient market,
Are you advertising the coins here, in preparation for a future sale? I ask because I see lots of ancient coins (gold too) for sale on your site(s). Since I am not a coin dealer ( though I do sell a few coins) I stand outside their world, their world of ethics strikes me as very contrastive, but then that may be fodder for another forum. Right? :shy: I mentioned coin collecting as being a great hobby for handicapped folks (like myself) as we often cannot move around so easily as "healthy" (or, "whole") types. Most of my collecting is done on-line, as I find it difficult to drive distances, and my wife is an amputee so she has no real love for driving. I can do much of my beloved hobby at HOME!! It is a hobby well suited for many handicapped folks!! Why do you find that offensive? I did not say the hobby was ONLY for the handicapped, your reading -- or English comprehension -- seems to handicap you, perhaps. I really enjoy the art seen on some coins, but to me there exists better forms of artistic expression, than a little hunk of tin, silver or gold. Nevertheless, I can still appreciate the beauty seen in the Caballitos of Mexico, or the work of Gilroy Roberts on the coinage of Liberia et cetera et cetera. Since you are newer here than I, perhaps you missed my many picture posts of beautiful coins, look around, before you speak. Sculpture and engraving to me is not the "Highest form of Art", which sounds like a hawkers come-on. Just feast on this beauty (below), and welcome to the forum, you will find lots of opinions and knowledge herein. Enjoy!! (coin pictures are off topic, but appropriate for this post)

  18. Dear GSDykes
In all my posts, I never ever advertised my store nor "future sales " as you hypothesize. It looks like a malicious prejudgment.
I am here, to share the love for ancient coins.
First of all, I'm a collector of ancient coins. Sometimes I sell, probably you figured out that my store is 4 years old. I didn't wait 4 years to join cointalk, just to start selling coins. In matter of fact, I don't want even to mention my store. I'm here because most of the members here are very educated on ancient coins, thus we can share the passion and love for this type of art.
In 24 hours, I had the chance to see 2 beautiful gorgeous collection " Tiff " and " Colosseum "
To me, ancient coins are a very high art form and I posted my opinion only. To you might be something else, to another person might be the almighty " mr. potato" or barbie doll.

Let's talk about ancient coins :)
