What's under/inside the "D" in my 1944-D Wheat Cent?

    Looks like a snake or an S, but seems sideways?

    On a serious note,I see what looks like an 'S' inside the D,but is there what looks like the top of another D sticking out at the top.?

    It looks to me as if it may be some sort of well-placed gouge/ding, which would fit well with what appears to be the likely general condition of the coin, but with the rather iffy photo, who's to say for sure.

    Clearly Omega man had fallen on hard times and had to resort to cents.

    All kidding aside I see something just not sure what it is.
