I've never paid extra for a box and never will. Asking what banks to use really doesn't help because different areas have different rules. Last thing. No banks get coin "from the fed" even though their employees might think so. All orders are shipped through couriers.
Just as a reminder, Chase is courting customers and will provide "boxes" of any coinage for free in their South Florida market.
There are no Chase banks in my part of the state, they really are not a big name around here, Wells Fargo and US are the 2 bigger ones around.
Every bank location is a different situation and things may change from day to day. It's not the name on the building as much as it is what works best for that location. You just have to roll with it and make friends within the location. Don't just use one name or location. Play with it and be positive and friendly.
yeah that would be fantastic. even though I DO deliver the paper. that goes towards my personal bills. taking care of my elderly mom I don't have the luxury of working a full time job with all her appts. not to mention all the money I made off homesteads. if you had extra time and could make extra money why not? how many people sit there and watch t.v. doing absolutely NOTHING! I watch my shows and make money while doing it. did I mention tax free???
the "banks" in my area do not allow me to buy the bags. which would be GREAT seeing the TD bank coin machine accepts halves. the only one that will allow me to buy bags is the credit union. I have tried to get an answer for this...but no luck
In my area the machine at TD accepts halves, but it always gets clogged... Its good and bad because although it wastes my time, i usually get to pick up all the stuff that fell below the reject tube!
I just asked the teller at my bank if I would be able to order a box of halves, she said yes. Then I asked if there was a charge and she said they aren't allowed to charge a fee and I just have to let them know a week or two ahead of when I want them. Now I just have to come up with the $500 and go place an order. By the way, some tellers will lie to you. I asked at my bank last year and the teller said they don't order coins for people. She obviously lied.
Well if a bank does not order change and rolls their own coins they would not be able to order boxes, most of the banks I get stuff from roll their own change and dont order change, I know 3 banks can order boxes, 1 wont sell me them, one charges 7.50 a box and the other charges $2 a box, im trying the 2$ a box until I break even, the first 2 boxes I got had 4 90% and 6 40% in it, so im running of that for a little while.
I'm sorry I just have to complain about this for a second. I have a bank account at TD, my parents have accounts at Chase. I can't order half dollars at my bank so i have to go and drive to the nearest chase (although its only 5 minute away from TD) to order it. But wait, my parents need to come into the bank with me to prove they have an account. They've seen me enough times to know I have access to an account there. I guess i understand they want to make sure i have an account there but i'm ordering the half dollars, i'm not buying them. I don't know that just annoys me. My bank trips would be so much quicker if TD would just order halves for me. Nevertheless i have a box of halves coming in from Chase, should be here in 1-2 weeks.
If I was you, I would try and open an account there, they may have a student account with a cheaper minimal balance, I have 8 bank accounts at different places to use their services, some may be higher but its worth it to tie up some money to use those banks. Chase seems to be the place to order coins from, I have no chase bank in my town unfortunately, have 3 branches of a bunch of other banks.
I have no problems opening an account there, but i have no reason to. I already have accounts at 2 banks. Most of my money is making .75 percent, so really there is no point in opening an account at chase. I only have a bit of money in TD so i can use the coin counters. Also at chase, once you reach 19, there is a $6 monthly fee, unless you have $5000. I'd rather be making .75% than be able to get coins more easily
Thats a much higher minimal balance than I was expecting, the highest one I have found is $300 anywhere
Open up an account. Chase probably has a "special" on whereby they reward you for opening up a savings or a checking account.
you don't REALLY have access to their account. if you deposit money into their account the teller will not give you a receipt with the balance on it unless you are on the account or there is a foot note by the actual account holder that says you may do so. I take care of my mom, I know. As for them having to come in I don't believe it's to prove they have account. it's more like you don't have an account there and they will not sell them to you without one. they don't even have to give you change for a dollar bill if you are not a member. if your parents come in who ARE account holders then they justify it by saying they sold it to your parents. they are actually doing you a favor. furthermore...just because you DO have an account at TD bank does not mean they are obligated to give you what you request. they have businesses to accommodate. sometimes I order 2 boxes from a different bank and I only end up getting one... or none because businesses came in and got them. there's always next week. don't say or do anything that would make them not like you. burning your bridges is bad. make them WANT to do it for you. ALWAYS be polite regardless. and ALWAYS say thank you.
