You an expatriate from 'Knights of the Coin Table' Triggersmob? I've got that same (turtle) medal. My only 'DC'.........
Not expat, still a member. I frequent 4 different forums. All those medals are DC creations. The turtle medal means the most to me though, Gary Burke was a good friend.
I never knew him but I was touched by the tributes that you and others gave the fine fellow. Sad that I never had a chance to meet/know him but your tributes are what prompted me to purchase the medal.......
My avitar. HK 20, medal of the 1876 exposition in Philadelphia. Engraved by Charles Barber and struck by the US Mint.
Silver annual medal of Pope Alexander VII, issued in 1657 as the plague in Rome, which had started in May of 1656, was coming to an end.
As Gary was very fond of the 63mm Pewter medals, this medal was never struck in silver. It was made only in 63mm pewter. It also gave us more room for the design. It was an in joke that a kelpie would always ride shot gun on the turtles back, but we couldn't fit that in the design.
This medal was given to my father's uncle in 1895 by the San Francisco Schools for being the best student in his class. It was called a Samuel Bridge Medal and there is more about it here: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/wh...-did-he-give-a-medal-to-frank-odonnell.187110
