    Hello everyone!

Big day for my ancient collection, and I would like to share a couple of my recent additions with these two hefty Ptolemaic bronzes. I've been very interested in coins from this kingdom for a while and finally bought a couple. I'm pretty sure it was @TIF 's monster that first sparked my interest.

    Ptolemy III BC 246-222
    AE 38.6mm, 41.6g, Alexandria mint
    Bust of Zeus-Amon right
Eagle standing half left on fulmen, wings closed, head right, filleted cornucopia right ascending from behind shoulder, E between legs
    Svoronous 974

    Ptolemy IV, BC 221-204
    AE 41mm, 64g, Alexandria mint
    Bust of Zeus-Ammon right
Eagle standing left on thunderbolt; cornucopia tied with fillet before, DELTA IOTA between legs
    Svoronos 1125

[I can't figure out how to make my computer write the Greek letters.]

If anyone has any they would like to share, I would love to see them!

Both are fantastic! Aren't these so satisfying to hold?

I need to update the composite since I've added a couple more.

    Excellent choices jwt ;)

You've got to be careful buying the larger denominations because many of them are tooled. Despite the size of the flans, the dies were not carved in high relief, and some dealer-doctors feel they have to improve the definition of the devices with a dremel.

My most recent addition came home with me from Baltimore, ex-CNG...

Ptolemaic Kings of Egypt. Ptolemy III Euergetes. 246-222 BC.
    Æ Triobol, 34mm, 34.07g, 12h; Alexandreia mint. Series 5. Struck 230-222 BC.
Obv.: Diademed head of Zeus-Ammon right.
Rev.: Eagle with closed wings standing left on thunderbolt; filleted cornucopia to left, XP monogram between legs.

Wow Jwt708, those are super cool new Ptolemaic additions (congrats)

Oh, and I agree with TIF => these babies sure feel nice in the hand, eh? (kinda like a nice ol' skipping-stone)

I have a few examples, but zero skills to make a virtual tray, so you'll merely have to scroll through 'em ...

I don't have any big Ptolemaics, I do have a couple of tiny ones though, both smaller than a US dime

Anyone else have problem with flips on these? The one I bought just BARELY fits into a flip. Its a chore to take it out quite honestly. I have 2.5x2.5 but they suck to use since they don't fit into normal boxes.

These are excellent. Most everyone aims for the great big coins. Finding the small denominations as centered, well-struck, and well-preserved as yours is much tougher. Here is one of my little ones...

Same problem here. Plus, with inflexible Saflips, they tend to crack and split with these thick and heavy coins, even without repeated openings. Although many of my Ptolemy bronzes will fit in 2x2 flips, right now I'm keeping all of the Ptolemies together in a separate box. I'm considering getting a padded partitioned case for them. The Nomos case is lovely but expensive, plus the partitions are too small for the larger denominations. Maybe I'll get an Abafil case.

The flips mine came in are already showing signs of distress. They make vinyl envelopes for large coins or medals...but vinyl no thanks. They would be great if only.

I like the little Ptolemies too and the silver. How big as that one @John Anthony ?
