Is the U.S. Mint currently making any foreign, unreeded coins with dime planchets? I received in change an unremarkable 1996 P dime that doesn't have reeding. It doesn't appear to have been ground down; the rims look right. It's the correct weight and seems otherwise properly struck. If any of you error experts have insight about how it could happen, I would love to hear about it. The edge pics were difficult to focus, sorry.
6 looks like a '4' to me. @Conder101 .......he knows about the mint making foreigns and the years involved.
@H8_modern Your photos, particularly of the edge, need to be clearer. It is very unlikely that this could be a planchet intended for a foreign coin since the retaining collar forms the edge during the strike. How could you have a blank collar and dies for a US dime? Chris
